A Cotswolds family kitchen: designed for both action and aesthetics!

Set in the heart of the Cotswolds, a traditional stone-built Farmhouse was extended and renovated, to the architectural designs of Tyack Architects. Our client and the architectural design team worked closely with Jamie Strachan of HIP Creative Consulting, who masterminded the aesthetic from top to toe, collaborating with Barr Kitchens and Barr Joinery to manufacture and fit bespoke cabinetry throughout.

Our clients, a busy entrepreneurial couple, with three strapping rugby playing sons, needed the kitchen, scullery and laundry room to be set for some serious action. Longevity and functionality were as high up on the tick list as an elegant Cotswold Farmhouse aesthetic. All storage was carefully thought out and tailored in layout, height and capacity to the specific objects it would house. Surfaces are beautiful and hard wearing, shelving open and accessible, appliances… hidden and capable of meeting the challenge head on!

As stunning as the big picture may be, it is the fine detailing of the Winstone Farm kitchen which makes it really special. Things like the profile of each shelving bracket against the thickness of it’s corresponding shelf. The handmade drawer boxes are dovetailed for longevity and look as beautiful inside as out. Cabinetry is carefully scribed into the exposed stonework, perfectly following the line of each stone and joining one element to the other. On this project the minds of our clients, project designer and the Barr Kitchens team met with a fastidious attention detail!

“For our clients it was absolutely clear that the functionality, size and position of their kitchen island was of the essence. This end product provides ample work surface without overpowering the space. The bar stools can be neatly stored under the marble countertop with plenty of room to store pots pans, cutlery, plates and more! Painted in F&B Inchyra with a Carrara marble counter top, the island serves our clients with a place to casually congregate for all manner of occasions - including the important Sunday papers ritual!” says project designer Jamie Strachan.

The brief included a dedicated laundry room, which adjoins the scullery and is accessed by one of the owners reclaimed doors. Here the simple shaker cabinetry is painted in F&B Cromarty with a ‘eat and tidy’ granite stone worktop finished with beautiful, aged brass faucets and a single Belfast sink. The vaulted ceiling gives a feeling of space and light – making a delightfully airy and highly functional space.
