Blockley House
Oxfordshire
DESIGN: Barr Kitchens, in collaboration with our clients.
BRIEF: Our clients’ vision was for a traditional family kitchen, with plenty of storage and bespoke design features. Spanish clay tiles, fluted glazing, a curved island end and hidden storage were just a few of the prerequisites.
CABINETRY: Traditionally proportioned, square edge Shaker cabinetry, with oak shelving and internals, is hand painted in Little Greene Portland Stone. A bank of tall cabinets, with a rounded corner profile to soften pinch points, serves as larder storage and a mini plantroom, hiding away the boiler, manifold and other functional items. A large central island features a deep breakfast bar, with tongue and groove back panel detail and a half-circle timber-topped butcher’s block end. The adjoining snug cabinetry is painted in Farrow & Ball’s Card Room Green and includes a bespoke backlit bar with fluted glass, tongue and groove back panels in Edward Bulmer’s Brick and Armac Martin scallop cup brass pull handles, as well as hidden doorway library shelving.
FIXTURES AND FITTINGS: Living finish Perrin & Rowe tap sets in antique brass compliment a Shaws of Darwen fluted piecrust sink and reclaimed brass prep sink. Cabinetry is flanked by Riverlet Caesarstone worktops, with Armac Martin Bakes handles in burnished brass. Refrigeration is by Fisher & Paykel, dishwasher by Miele and centrepiece range-cooker by ILVE.
