DESIGN: Barr Kitchens/client collaboration
BRIEF: Our clients asked us to work with them to create a kitchen space, as part of a large-scale extension and renovation project. With sustainability and longevity at front and centre, the brief was for a bright, unique modern kitchen, set for busy family living and entertaining. Natural materials, a neutral colour scheme and Crittall-style fenestration were a strong starting point, as well as the introduction of curves, which would be reflected throughout the kitchen design.
CABINETRY: The kitchen cabinetry and shelves are manufactured from solid oak and treated with natural oil. End panels, doors and drawer fronts are designed to the Barr Kitchens distinctive slimline Shaker style. Bespoke detailing includes inset oak trays and inset chopping boards, both accessed with finger pull cutouts. Reeded solid oak from The Surface Studio creates a curved fluted island finish. A walk-in larder, with a curved entrance arch, is lined with open shelving and incorporates integrated wine racking. A separate dresser-style bar houses a beer fridge, drinks storage and glasses shelving.
FITTINGS: Armac Martin ‘Bakes’ handles and knobs and Armstrong tap sets from Perrin & Rowe are in untreated brass for a living finish. A classic Lacanche Cluny range cooker and hob in a stainless steel and brass trim finish sits against natural stone worktops. Built-in appliances include a Fisher & Paykel dishwasher and refrigeration.
